The Abu Dhabi Civil Family Court has imposed a Dh20,000 fine on a man involved in a social media account verification scam. The court’s decision comes after the accused failed to comply with an earlier order to return Dh61,750 he fraudulently obtained from a victim under the guise of offering social media account verification services.
The case unfolded when the victim approached the court, alleging that the accused had deceitfully taken money promising to assist in verifying a social media account. This claim was similar to a service the accused had purportedly provided to another user. The court initially ordered the restitution of the embezzled amount along with a Dh5,000 fine.
However, the situation escalated to a criminal case when the accused disregarded the court’s directives, leading to the increased fine and the reaffirmation of the order to return the full amount of Dh61,750 to the victim.
