Man caught with 89 grams of heroin in Satwa faces jail and deportation

An Asian expatriate will be deported after serving a three-month prison sentence in Dubai for drug possession and use, following a recent ruling by the Dubai Court of Appeal.

The case began in January 2023 when Dubai Police received a tip-off about a man using drugs in the Al Satwa area. Acting on the information, anti-narcotics officers raided the suspect’s home and arrested him. Authorities found several packets of heroin, later confirmed by forensic analysis to total 89 grams.

The man tested positive for drug use and admitted during interrogation that he obtained the heroin for personal use. He said he connected with a supplier via WhatsApp, received the drugs at various locations, and paid through bank transfers.

The appeal court upheld the initial three-month jail term and ordered the confiscation of the drugs, followed by his deportation—a decision that reflects the UAE’s firm approach to drug-related crimes.

Dubai Police continue to encourage the public to report suspicious drug activity through their hotline.
