A 76-year-old Indian national, Mr. Mohammed Iqbal Usman, has been successfully saved through a transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) procedure at Aster Hospital Qusais. Known for his severe aortic stenosis compounded by chronic atrial fibrillation, hypertension, and multivessel coronary artery disease, Mr. Usman faced significant risks with traditional surgical interventions.
Under the expert care of Dr. Naveed Ahmed, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Aster Hospital Qusais, the medical team performed this minimally invasive procedure, highlighting a significant advancement in cardiac care. Mr. Usman had previously suffered from heart failure and unstable angina, necessitating multiple hospitalizations and an angiogram revealing serious blockages.
The TAVI procedure, conducted through a small incision in his left groin under conscious sedation, allowed for a swift recovery. Mr. Usman was discharged a few days later and is now able to carry out daily activities without any symptoms of shortness of breath or chest pain, significantly improving his quality of life.
Mr. Usman expressed his gratitude to Dr. Ahmed and the medical team, saying, “Their exceptional care and expertise have transformed my life, and I am grateful for the renewed confidence and well-being I now experience.”
Dr. Ahmed noted, “Mr. Usman’s case required a nuanced approach due to his complex medical history. The TAVI procedure allowed us to precisely implant the valve through minimally invasive techniques, resulting in significant improvements in his quality of life.”
