Malacañang has called on overseas Filipinos to actively participate in the ongoing 2025 overseas voting period and choose their candidates based on values, not bribes or pressure.
“This is your right — a way for you to make your voice heard,” said Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro in a press briefing on Monday. “Our message from the Palace: Fulfill your duty as a Filipino. Vote wisely, vote with your heart.”
Castro emphasized the importance of electing leaders who are patriotic and trustworthy, urging voters to reject vote-buying and undue influence. “Do not vote because of whispers or because you were paid. Choose leaders who will not sell the country in any form, leaders who are truly makabayan,” she added.
The voting period for Filipinos abroad officially began this month and will continue until May 12. Voters are tasked to elect 12 senators and one party-list representative.
In a historic first, internet voting is now being implemented in select locations — a move Castro described as a welcome step forward in election reform. “Hopefully, this new method will improve the voting experience and encourage higher participation among our countrymen overseas,” she said.
The Commission on Elections earlier explained that the online voting system aims to address long-standing challenges faced by overseas Filipinos, particularly those in remote areas or with limited access to consular services.
