Malacañang questions VP Sara Duterte’s ‘scam’ claim: ‘Isn’t it the other way around?’

Malacañang on Monday responded to Vice President Sara Duterte’s claim that she was “scammed” during the 2022 national elections, questioning who was truly deceived in the process.

“Isn’t it the other way around?” Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said in a GMA News report.

Duterte, who ran alongside President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. under the banner of unity and continuity, recently expressed regret over her decision.

“Akala ko kasi mas gusto niya ng mas magandang bayan kasi ang plataporma namin nung tumakbo kami unity at continuity. Nadala na ako, na-scam na ako, nabudol na ako,” she said, adding that she no longer plans to endorse a candidate in the upcoming elections to avoid similar sentiments.

The relationship between Marcos and Duterte has grown strained, particularly after the House of Representatives scrutinized her office’s use of confidential and intelligence funds. Lawmakers have been investigating the allocation of these funds under both the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education, which she heads.
