A majority of Filipinos are aware of the impeachment complaint filed against Vice President Sara Duterte, with most opposing the move, according to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted from June 25 to 29, 2025.
Out of 1,200 adults surveyed nationwide, 59 percent said they were aware of the complaint, while 42 percent expressed disagreement with the impeachment. Only 32 percent were in favor, 18 percent were undecided, and 7 percent admitted they lacked enough knowledge to form an opinion.
The survey also found that 44 percent of respondents believe the Senate is intentionally delaying the impeachment trial, while 25 percent disagreed and 22 percent remained undecided.
The Senate earlier returned the Articles of Impeachment to the House of Representatives, asking it to certify that the process did not violate the Constitution and that it remains committed to prosecuting the case when the new Congress convenes. This move sparked backlash among legal scholars, who argued that such action was not supported by any constitutional provision.
Regionally, Metro Manila registered the highest awareness of the case at 68 percent, followed by the Visayas at 64 percent. Meanwhile, Mindanao reported the lowest awareness at 52 percent—and also the strongest opposition, with a net agreement score of –52. In contrast, the strongest support came from Metro Manila, with a net agreement score of +12.
Public sentiment on the Senate’s alleged delay also varied, with Balance Luzon recording the highest net belief at +27, followed by Metro Manila at +20. Mindanao once again showed the least agreement with a net score of +6.
The impeachment stems from allegations of fund misuse and a supposed conspiracy to kill President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his relatives, should an attempt on Duterte’s life succeed. Although four complaints were filed, only the fourth—gaining majority support in the House—was formally transmitted to the Senate.
