Maid to pay AED 10,000 in damages after CCTV shows rough handling of infant in Abu Dhabi

A domestic worker has been ordered by the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court to pay AED 10,000 in damages to her employer after surveillance footage showed her handling his infant child in a rough and harmful manner.

According to a Gulf Today report, the employer, who hired the maid specifically to care for his young child, filed a civil lawsuit demanding AED 51,000 in compensation for emotional and physical harm inflicted on the child, in addition to interest and legal fees. He presented CCTV evidence showing the maid’s abusive behavior, which led to injuries including damage to the child’s leg.

In a previous ruling, the maid had already been fined AED 3,000 and held accountable under criminal charges.

Though she denied mistreating the child and claimed she was merely playing with him, the court relied on the criminal court’s final judgment to support the father’s claims. The civil court ultimately granted partial compensation of AED 10,000 for the physical and psychological trauma the child endured.
