Mahzooz, a widely recognized raffle draw in the UAE, will temporarily cease its operations starting January 1, 2024. The decision comes in compliance with the gaming regulations set forth by UAE authorities. The company communicated the news to its subscribers, marking December 30, 2023, as the last date for its weekly draws until further notice.
The pause aligns with the broader efforts of regulators to foster a well-regulated gaming environment within the country. Although draws will be on hold, Mahzooz assured its customers that their accounts would remain active, allowing them to withdraw any remaining balances.
Since its inception in 2020, Mahzooz has become a significant player in the gaming sector, declaring over 64 millionaires and distributing Dh500 million among 1.8 million winners. In 2023 alone, 33 participants turned millionaires through the raffle.
Participants in the raffle traditionally purchase a water bottle for Dh35, contributing to a charitable cause, and in return, receive a chance to win substantial prizes. The company expressed its gratitude to its patrons and assured its commitment to integrity and responsibility in gaming.
As the UAE tightens its gaming regulations, with the establishment of the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority and the appointment of industry veteran Kevin Mullally as the chief executive, Mahzooz remains optimistic. It anticipates a possible resumption of operations in the first quarter of 2024, pending regulatory approval, and continues to value the support and understanding of its community during this interim period.
