LTO suspends vlogger’s license for 90 days over reckless driving in viral video

A vlogger known online as Cherry White is facing the consequences of a viral video that showed her driving in a dangerously casual manner. The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended her driver’s license for 90 days following public outcry and an official investigation.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) confirmed the suspension on Saturday, stressing that such reckless behavior puts the lives of other motorists and pedestrians at risk.

“Paulit-ulit na utos ng Pangulo na dapat ay ligtas ang kalsada para sa lahat. Hindi natin tino-tolerate ang iresponsable at reckless na pagmamaneho,” Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said in a press statement.

The video showed Cherrylyn Larga Gonzaga, a.k.a. Cherry White, lounging behind the wheel with one leg propped up on the seat — a posture the LTO said clearly compromised her ability to operate the vehicle safely.

In a show cause order issued Friday, the LTO directed Gonzaga to explain why her license should not be revoked for being an “Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.” She is required to appear before the agency on Wednesday, July 16, at 11 a.m.

Her vehicle has also been placed under alarm status, which blocks all transactions involving it while the case is under investigation.

Secretary Dizon called on the public to stay vigilant and continue reporting unsafe driving behavior to the DOTr and LTO.
