LPU Batangas students bring home gold and trophies from World Scholar’s Cup at Yale

Students from Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Batangas Senior High School achieved a remarkable victory at the World Scholar’s Cup Tournament of Champions held at Yale University in Connecticut, USA. Competing against over 2,700 scholars from around the globe, the team proudly brought home two trophies and 16 medals, including six golds and 10 silvers, in recognition of their skills in debate, writing, and teamwork.

The LPU Batangas team, composed of Precious Nicole D. Calatong (STEM Medical 1B), Ann Margaret F. Lumanglas (STEM Engg 1B), and Shan Allen Kristoffer S. Beron (STEM Engg 2A), represented their school and the Philippines with outstanding results. Their achievements elevated Filipino pride on an international stage.

Among the individual awards, Precious Nicole D. Calatong earned a gold medal and trophy in debate, was ranked among the top 10 in overall debate performance, and also secured a silver in writing. Ann Margaret F. Lumanglas won a gold medal in debate and a silver in writing, while Shan Allen Kristoffer S. Beron received silvers in both debate and writing.

As a team, the trio won a gold medal and trophy for being ranked in the top six debate teams, along with silver medals in the Scholar’s Bowl and Collaborative Writing categories.

The team’s success was supported by their mentors, Dan Emerson V. Desiderio, Area Chair of Languages and Social Sciences, and Dr. Jamie Lee F. Mendoza, High School Principal. These educators were instrumental in guiding the students through the rigorous preparations for both the Bangkok Qualifying Round and the Tournament of Champions.

The World Scholar’s Cup is a globally renowned academic competition that challenges students in science, literature, social studies, and the arts while fostering cross-cultural connections. The Tournament of Champions at Yale is the pinnacle of this event, where only the top teams from the Global Rounds compete.
