A long-time lotto player from Mandaluyong City is now over PHP331 million richer after claiming the Grand Lotto 6/55 jackpot drawn on May 17, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) confirmed on Wednesday.
The life-changing winning combination — 30-29-42-28-02-43 — was randomly selected using the Lucky Pick system. According to the winner, who has been betting on PCSO games for the past decade, the moment still feels surreal.
“I was already losing hope. I was thinking: does anybody really win in lotto? My question has been answered and this will bring great changes in my life,” the winner said in a statement released by PCSO.
Even with the massive windfall, the new millionaire expressed a heartfelt desire to give back. He said he plans to donate to an animal shelter to provide a safe haven for stray cats and dogs.
PCSO General Manager Mel Robles applauded not just the win, but the message behind it. “This is not just a story of luck, but of perseverance and compassion. It reminds us of the real-life impact of every game and every player who supports our programs,” he said.
The PCSO continues to remind the public to play responsibly and emphasizes that every bet supports charitable initiatives. Under Republic Act 1169, jackpot prizes must be claimed within one year, or they will be forfeited.
Winners must claim their prize at the PCSO Main Office on Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City, and present two government-issued IDs. All jackpot winnings are also subject to a 20% tax.
The agency encourages continued support for its games, noting that a significant portion of revenues directly funds medical and charitable programs across the country.
