Liza Marcos comforts OFWs in Riyadh, assures them they’re not forgotten

First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos underscored the Philippine government’s commitment to protecting overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) during her recent visit to Bahay Kalinga Shelters 1 and 2 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

On July 19, 2025, she met with over 220 Filipinos under the care of the Migrant Workers Office—comprising 154 women at Bahay Kalinga 1 and 70 individuals, including 28 children, at Bahay Kalinga 2. Many of them are distressed OFWs awaiting repatriation.

“Gobyernong maaasahan at handang tumulong kanino man,” the First Lady said, reaffirming the Marcos administration’s commitment to the welfare of Filipinos abroad.

She was accompanied by senior officials from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

During the visit, the OFWs received financial assistance, luggage, hygiene kits, food, and other supplies as part of the Philippine government’s directive to ensure a dignified return for all repatriated Filipinos. These efforts were carried out in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s instruction to prioritize the safety and welfare of OFWs around the world.
