Former Vice President Leni Robredo is set to run for mayor of Naga City in the 2025 elections, according to Liberal Party Executive Vice President Erin Tañada. This confirms earlier reports of Robredo’s plan to return to local politics.
Liberal Party president and Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman shared that Robredo intends to continue the legacy of her late husband, former Naga City mayor and Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, who passed away in a plane crash in 2012.
Robredo, who ran for president in 2022 and finished second to Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., has since focused on her Angat Buhay Foundation, a non-government organization dedicated to empowering marginalized communities in the Philippines.
In related news, Robredo’s 2022 vice-presidential running mate, former senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, also announced his bid to run for senator in the 2025 midterm elections.
