Former Vice President Atty. Leni Robredo admitted she was unprepared for the intense emotional depth of Vice Ganda’s latest movie, And the Breadwinner Is…, after attending a special screening organized by the comedian’s team.
Speaking to ABS-CBN News, Robredo expressed her surprise at the powerful 14-minute one-take confrontation scene, noting how relatable it was for many Filipinos.
“Hindi ko inaasahan na ganun ka-heavy yung scene na yun. Familiar yung lahat ng sinabi at sitwasyon. Sa tingin ko, maraming Pilipino ang makakarelate dito—yung sakripisyo para sa pamilya at pagmamahal,” she shared.
Before the screening, Robredo had heard glowing reviews of Vice’s dramatic performance. Experiencing it firsthand left her deeply impressed.
“Ang bigat, mabigat na mabigat. Hindi ko inakala na ganun kahusay si Vice in a dramatic role. Akala ko sprinkling of drama lang, pero nagbibigay-pugay siya sa maraming tao,” she said.
While the dramatic scenes stood out, Robredo also appreciated the humor and comedic timing of the entire cast. She commended Vice Ganda for exploring a new era in her film career.
“Palagay ko kailangan damihan niya pa. Wala na siyang kailangang iprove sa tagal na niya sa business. Eto iba, iba in the sense na ramdam yung lalim,” she added.
Robredo revealed plans to marathon Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entries with her children during the holidays, starting with Vice Ganda’s film.
The screening, held earlier this week, was attended by Robredo, her daughter Aika, members of Team Angat Buhay, and staff from It’s Showtime.
