Leche flan, a popular dessert in the Philippines, has clinched the third position in TasteAtlas’s Top 10 Best Rated Custards in the World. This delightful treat is crafted from milk, sugar, and eggs, complemented with a touch of vanilla flavoring. It’s recognized for its distinctive oval shape, a result of being set in traditional tin molds known as llaneras.
TasteAtlas recommends enjoying leche flan chilled, generously drenched in its signature caramel syrup. Rooted in the Philippines’ colonial history, the dessert is believed to have been introduced to the islands during the Spanish colonization, suggesting its origin may lie at the crossroads of Spain and France.
Topping the list of best custards is Wisconsin, USA’s frozen custard, with France’s iconic crème brûlée taking second place.
This is not the first time Filipino desserts have been highlighted by TasteAtlas. Earlier in June, sorbetes and halo-halo were featured in the platform’s Top 50 Best Frozen Desserts in the World.
