Lacson: Sotto remains a good leader, always open to consensus

Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson expressed his continued backing for Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III amid reports that some senators are considering leaving the majority bloc.

In an interview with Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday, Lacson said his support for Sotto remains firm. “Kung ako tatanungin, patuloy yung support ko sa kanya,” he stated. However, he also acknowledged that leadership changes are part of Senate dynamics, noting that any group of 13 senators can replace the sitting Senate president if they wish.

Lacson praised Sotto’s leadership, saying he has long observed how the Senate President manages the upper chamber. “Maayos siya magpalakad, maayos ang kanyang leadership. Laging consensus. Hindi siya nagdidikta, hindi siya nagdedesisyon mag-isa,” Lacson said.

When asked about the Senate’s stability following allegations of irregularities in flood control projects, Lacson refrained from commenting on his colleagues’ sentiments. “Hindi ko alam kasi nasa isipan yun ng aking mga kasamahan,” he said.

His remarks came after Senator JV Ejercito voiced disappointment over the Senate’s handling of the flood control probe, suggesting he was considering leaving the majority bloc.
