‘La Mode en Moi’ brings Filipino artistry and fashion to Paris

Recently, Paris became the center of a vibrant fusion of fashion and art with the event “La Mode en Moi” (The Fashion in Me). Set against the elegant backdrop of Espace Nestle during the Business Art Fair Event, this unique exhibition showcased the work of 25 Filipina painters who combined art and traditional Filipiniana fashion to tell their personal stories.

The exhibition was brought to life through the vision of Chelony Mercado from the Netherlands, who conceptualized and organized the event with Paris-based co-organizer Lovelie Albarracin. Their shared goal was to celebrate Filipino culture and provide a global platform for talented artists. For Chelony, the project was a heartfelt tribute inspired by memories of her mother teaching her to sew, blending nostalgia with artistic innovation.

Each participating artist presented a 70×50 cm 3D canvas paired with a traditional Filipiniana dress, reflecting their unique life experiences. Standout artists included Viviane Mauske, Paw Molera, Madilyn Baduria, and Dubai-based Emilia Castus, among others. The exhibition transformed into an immersive experience, allowing visitors to appreciate the intricate artistry and cultural depth that the combination of visual art and fashion conveyed.

With plans to travel to the Netherlands and Belgium in March 2025, “La Mode en Moi” aims to continue amplifying the voices of Filipino artists, highlighting their distinctive narratives through art and fashion.
