The Civil Service Commission of Kuwait has officially announced Thursday, February 8, as a public holiday, granting residents a three-day weekend. This declaration comes in observance of Isra Wal Miraj, a significant religious event in the Islamic calendar.
Government institutions, including ministries, public agencies, and various bodies, will remain closed, allowing citizens and residents to participate in the festivities. The Civil Service Bureau confirmed that operations and regular work schedules would resume on Sunday, February 11.
While most entities will be adhering to this holiday schedule, certain essential agencies have been given the flexibility to adjust their holiday plans to cater to public needs, ensuring that critical services remain uninterrupted.
Isra Wal Miraj, observed on the 27th day of the Islamic month of Rajab, commemorates the miraculous night journey and ascension of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). The event symbolizes his journey from Mecca to Jerusalem, followed by an ascent to heaven, all within a single night. To honor this sacred occurrence, Muslims engage in optional prayers throughout the night and participate in cultural traditions such as lighting candles and illuminating special lights, representing the Prophet’s (PBUH) enlightened journey.
