Knights of Rizal in Bahrain honor patriotism with grand 11th knighting and awards ceremony

The Knights of Rizal (KOR) Bahrain Chapter successfully held its 11th Knighting Promotions, Exaltations, and Awarding Ceremony on October 16, 2025, at the Ramada Resort by Wyndham, Seef District. Attended by distinguished members of the Order, Philippine embassy officials, and representatives from the Filipino community in Bahrain, the grand event served as a meaningful celebration of Filipino patriotism and a reaffirmation of the noble ideals championed by the Philippines’ national hero, Dr. José Rizal.

The ceremony commenced with a dignified processional march that gracefully led into a solemn and touching wreath-laying tribute.

This was followed with a powerful rendition of both the Bahraini and Philippine National Anthems, symbolizing the deep respect and cultural ties between the host country and the Philippines.

In the wake of this tribute, the moral compass that directs each Knight was prominently highlighted through the solemn Rizalian Oath, led by Sir Capt. Noel Borja Escalona, KCR, which further solidified the Knights’ unwavering dedication to honor, patriotism, and service.

The Rizalian Code of Ethics was delivered by Sir Emmanuel Borja Morales, KCR, Area Commander for Bahrain and Kuwait. Marked by eloquence and conviction, his delivery served as a compelling reminder of the ethical principles and noble virtues that define a true Knight of Rizal.

A prayer led by Sir Carlito Bugarin, KCR, which was succeeded by the official opening conducted by Regional Commander Sir Elpidio Ramos Quitevis, establishing a respectful atmosphere for the evening’s proceedings.

In a keynote address delivered by Dr. Orville Ballitoc, Labor Attaché of the Philippine Embassy. Dr. Ballitoc eloquently applauded the KOR’s enduring commitment to leadership and nation-building, particularly for their efforts in upholding Filipino values and promoting national pride among overseas Filipinos. He underscored the importance of such organizations in fostering community and preserving cultural identity abroad.

A solemn inspirational talk seamlessly transitioned into a heartfelt address from Area Commander Sir Emmanuel Morales, whose speech, themed “Honoring Valor, Upholding Virtue,” resonated deeply with the audience, reaffirming the enduring values and principles upheld by the Knights of Rizal.

As participants were presented with a series of motivational speeches that highlighted the importance of the Rizalian mission, Chapter Commander Sir Eduardo Oña Hernandez delivered insightful speaking on “Advancing the Rizalian Mission,” safeguarding Rizal’s legacy and aiding national development.

The event was honored by the distinguished presence of Hon. Bryan Jess T. Baguio, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Philippine Embassy in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

In his speech, Hon. Baguio conveyed deep appreciation to the Knights of Rizal, presenting a concise yet sincere message that highlighted the significance of promoting patriotism, unity, and the lasting values represented by Dr. José Rizal.

The Regional Commander, Sir Elpidio Ramos Quitevis, presided over the initiation ceremony, during which he presented the ceremonial certificate and medal.

New Inductee to the Order

One of the highlights of the event was the formal admission of Labor Attaché Dr. Orville Acab Ballitoc into the Order. He was conferred the First Degree Rank of Knight of Rizal (KR) in recognition of his unwavering commitment to the study, propagation, and practice of Dr. Rizal’s values and teachings. His admission followed a favorable recommendation from the Chapter Council and fulfillment of all requirements prescribed by the By-Laws of the Order.

Elevation to Second Degree – Knight Officer of Rizal (KOR)

The following Knights were elevated to the Second Degree Rank of Knight Officer of Rizal (KOR) for their active leadership and constructive efforts toward advancing the Order’s mission:

  • Sir Omar Lareza Quitalig, KR
  • Sir Ruben Castro Agbuya, KR

Their elevation was based on the positive endorsement of the Lower Prefectural Tribunal and recognition of their continuous service in pursuit of Rizal’s ideals.

Elevation to Third Degree – Knight Commander of Rizal (KCR)

In recognition of their meritorious service and commitment to Rizalian principles, four distinguished Knight Officers were exalted to the Third Degree Rank of Knight Commander of Rizal (KCR):

  • Sir Giovani Mercado Bugarin, KOR
  • Sir Jim Robert Baluran Gamul, KOR
  • Sir Ronnel Alberto Santos, KOR
  • Sir Rory Solano Aguilar, KOR

This honor reflects their significant contributions and tireless pursuit of the Order’s goals, as mandated in its Charter and By-Laws.

Honorary Conferment of Knight Commander Rank

Hon. Bryan Jess T. Baguio was conferred the Honorary Rank of Knight Commander of Rizal (KCR) in recognition of his unceasing efforts to embody and promote the values of Dr. Jose Rizal through public service and civic involvement. His conferment followed the favorable recommendation of the Lower Prefectural Tribunal.

Lifetime Membership and Exaltation

The Supreme Council, upon unanimous approval and recommendation from the Prefectural Tribunal, conferred Lifetime Membership and exalted the following Knights to the Third Degree Rank of Knight Commander of Rizal (KCR):

  • Sir Roberto Acosta Fabros, Jr., KCR

These honors recognize their patriotic endeavors and lasting contributions to the Order’s mission of keeping the memory and ideals of Dr. Rizal alive.

The event also marked the awarding of the Distinguished Service Star to the two chapter leaders whose preeminent contributions brought honor and distinction to the Order and the Philippines:

 A Continuing Commitment to Legacy

The ceremony highlighted the enduring relevance of Dr. Jose Rizal’s life and teachings. Through each recognition, promotion, and award, the Bahrain Chapter affirms its commitment to uphold the timeless ideals of freedom, enlightenment, and national dignity.

The Knights of Rizal is a civic and patriotic organization established by Republic Act No. 646, which honors individuals who exemplify the life, spirit, and nationalism of the Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.

The Evaluation, Selection, and Awards Committee, under the Prefectural Tribunal, played a vital role in the review and approval of all honors and recognitions presented during the ceremony. The committee was composed of:

All recognitions and honors conferred during the ceremony reflect not only individual excellence but also a collective commitment to live out the timeless values of Dr. Jose Rizal. As each awardee continues to serve with integrity, patriotism, and purpose, they contribute to a legacy that transcends generations.

The event drew a diverse and esteemed audience, reflecting the strong community ties of the Knights of Rizal. Families of KOR members were present to witness this significant occasion, alongside leaders from various community organizations and academe. Notable attendees included Filipino Club president, Rosemarie Hernandez; Gydabelle Naval, principal,  Philippine School Bahrain, Cecilia V. Ancheta of the Filipino Writers’ Circle (Filwrite) and officers of Pinay Ikaw Na (PIN), among others.

The ceremony not only celebrated the accomplishments of its members but also reaffirmed the Bahrain Chapter’s vital role in perpetuating the legacy of Dr. José Rizal, ensuring his ideals of patriotism, integrity, and service continue to inspire Filipinos in the Kingdom of Bahrain and beyond.
