Actress Kim Chiu has joined the growing chorus of voices demanding accountability from public officials, releasing a powerful open letter on Instagram that echoes the anger of many Filipinos who rallied against corruption on Sunday.
Chiu, in her lengthy post, spoke as an “ordinary taxpayer” who fulfills her duties yet feels betrayed by leaders accused of pocketing funds. “Nakakabigla at nakakalungkot ang paulit-ulit nating nababasa: TRILYONG PISO na ipinaghahati-hatian sa harap-harapang paraan,” she wrote, condemning the blatant misuse of public money.
She stressed that while citizens worry about penalties for late tax payments, those in power appear to exploit the system without fear or conscience. “Hindi lang pera ang ninanakaw ninyo — ninakaw ninyo ang PAG-ASA,” she declared, pointing out how corruption robs the youth of their future, the poor of their dignity, and the nation of its faith in justice.
The actress also questioned how officials can live in luxury while millions suffer. “Paano kayo nakakatulog nang mahimbing sa mamahaling kama habang milyon ang walang maayos na matulugan?” she asked.
Her open letter ended with a call for genuine reform and accountability, insisting that taxpayers’ money is not a toy to be divided among the powerful. “Sobra na. Tama na. Panahon na para managot ang dapat managot,” she said.
