ABS-CBN Entertainment and Viu have announced that Filipino stars Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino will headline the Philippine adaptation of the South Korean series “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim.” Originally aired by ABS-CBN in 2018, the popular romantic-comedy, based on a webtoon, garnered high ratings and international acclaim.
This project marks the third collaboration between ABS-CBN and Viu in adapting top-rated international series for Filipino audiences, following “The Broken Marriage Vow” and “Flower of Evil.” Dreamscape Entertainment, an award-winning production company, will produce the series.
Chiu and Avelino are set to play the iconic roles of Secretary Kim and Mr. Vice-Chairman, originally portrayed by Park Min-young and Park Seo-joon. Cory Vidanes, ABS-CBN’s COO of broadcast, expressed gratitude to Viu for their continued partnership and enthusiasm in bringing a beloved K-drama series to the Philippine audience, highlighting Filipino talent globally.
Marianne Lee, Chief of Content Acquisition and Development at Viu, emphasized the importance of content that resonates with regional audiences and expressed confidence in the success of this third collaborative venture with ABS-CBN Entertainment and Dreamscape.
Sebastian Kim, Director for International Content Sales at CJ ENM, echoed these sentiments, expressing excitement about the adaptation’s potential to captivate Filipino viewers through a culturally-tailored version of the story, while maintaining the original’s charm and essence.
“What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim” revolves around the dynamic between a narcissistic corporate vice-chairman and his highly competent secretary. Their professional relationship takes a turn when she decides to resign, leading to unexpected romantic developments. The series is scheduled to air in 2024.
This new venture follows ABS-CBN and Viu’s successful partnership with GMA Network for the series “Unbreak My Heart,” which was a hit in the Philippines on Viu. Chiu and Avelino were last seen together in the series “Linlang.”
