Renowned news anchor and television host Kim Atienza, popularly known as Kuya Kim, recently fell victim to a death hoax circulating on social media.
A TikTok account, purportedly associated with GMA and marked with a blue diamond emoji, falsely announced Atienza’s death. The post featured a black-and-white photo of Kuya Kim with the message, “Maraming salamat, Alejandro ‘Kim’ Ilagan Atienza,” claiming he had passed away on June 3, 2024.
Kuya Kim swiftly debunked the hoax by sharing a screenshot of the misleading post on his Facebook account, overlaying it with the word “hoax” in bold red capital letters. In his caption, he wrote, “Aabot din tayo diyan, but not today,” reassuring his fans of his well-being.
The false news sparked irritation and disappointment among Kuya Kim’s followers and colleagues. Celebrities such as Rita Daniela, Ashley Rivera, Arnold Clavio, and Donita Rose took to social media to express their annoyance at the irresponsible post.
Kuya Kim, celebrated for his roles as a news anchor on “24 Oras” and host of GMA shows “TiktoClock” and “Dapat Alam Mo!”, continues to engage with his audience, emphasizing the importance of verifying information before sharing it online.
