KHDA announces online learning for Dubai private schools amid weather concerns

All private schools in Dubai are set to shift to online learning on Thursday, May 2, and Friday, May 3, as announced by the government due to anticipated unstable weather conditions. The decision, aimed at ensuring the safety of teachers and students, encompasses private schools, nurseries, and universities, according to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

This move comes after some Dubai private schools had already notified parents about the potential shift to distance learning in preparation for the inclement weather. Last month, government schools switched to online learning on April 16 due to a historic storm that hit the UAE, with private schools following suit. The extension of distance learning for a few days was prompted by the after-effects of the unstable weather, particularly in emirates like Sharjah, where residents experienced prolonged heavy rains.

While the impending weather scenario is not expected to mirror the rainfall encountered on April 16, the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) forecasts moderate to heavy rainfall over scattered areas, occasionally accompanied by lightning, thunder, and a probability of hail.

In preparation for these conditions, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority has announced its readiness, with officials discussing precautionary measures and the readiness of relevant entities during recent meetings.
