Pop icon Katy Perry has officially made her mark in space history as she soared more than 100 kilometers above Earth with an all-female crew aboard Blue Origin’s latest mission.
The Grammy-nominated singer, along with five other trailblazing women, lifted off from Blue Origin’s Launch Site One in West Texas on the NS-31 mission—marking the company’s 11th human flight. Joining her were journalist Gayle King, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and Lauren Sánchez, fiancée of Amazon founder and Blue Origin owner Jeff Bezos.
The crew crossed the Kármán line, the internationally recognized boundary of space, where their capsule separated from the rocket and allowed them a brief experience of weightlessness. After their journey, the capsule safely parachuted back to Earth, with Sánchez stepping out first, followed by Perry.
Perry raised a daisy flower toward the sky upon exit—a heartfelt tribute to her daughter, Daisy. “Daisies are common flowers, but they grow through any condition… They are resilient. They are powerful,” Perry said. “Flowers are to me God’s smile… even in a simple daisy.”
She also reflected on motherhood and love during the journey. “I feel super connected to love, so connected to love. I think this experience has shown me you never know how much love is inside of you,” she said, adding that the hardest part was leaving her daughter behind. “That’s all my love right there… and I wanted to model courage and worthiness and fearlessness.”
While floating in space, Perry sang What a Wonderful World to honor the beauty of Earth.
Sánchez, describing the view from above, shared, “You look at it, and you’re like, ‘We’re all in this together.’ We’re so connected, more connected than you realize.”
This milestone flight marks the first all-female crew in space since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo mission in 1963. Perry, speaking to Elle prior to the launch, said she hoped to inspire her daughter and a new generation “to never have limits on their dreams.”
