Kapamilya veteran broadcaster Karen Davila recently clarified her remarks regarding Nation’s Girl Group BINI’s impact on the international recognition of P-Pop. During an episode of ABS-CBN’s primetime news program TV Patrol, Davila praised BINI, consisting of members Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena, for their success and potential to promote P-Pop globally.
Davila’s comments, suggesting that BINI opened the door for P-Pop on the international stage, sparked backlash from fans of SB19, known as A’tin. SB19, a quintet comprising Josh, Pablo, Stell, Ken, and Justin, debuted in 2018 and has been credited by their fans with paving the way for other P-Pop groups.
On July 26, Davila addressed the controversy by reposting the viral clip of her statement and clarifying her position. She acknowledged SB19’s pioneering role in bringing P-Pop to international attention and emphasized that BINI is making their own mark as the first all-girl P-Pop group to achieve significant success.
Davila expressed her admiration for both groups, highlighting their contributions to the P-Pop genre and their role in inspiring future local artists. “Both SB19 and BINI are making the country proud, and may they continue to open doors for aspiring artists,” she concluded.
