Kalimudan Festival 2025 draws 1.2 million people, marking one of the PH’s biggest cultural celebrations

Sultan Kudarat’s Kalimudan Festival 2025 capped off its week-long celebration with a massive turnout, as provincial officials reported an estimated 1.2 million festival-goers during the closing event. The figure, attributed to the Sultan Kudarat Police Provincial Office (SKPPO), was shared by Governor Datu Pax Ali S. Mangudadatu, who described this year’s festivities as the province’s largest cultural gathering yet.

The annual festival—rooted in the Maguindanaon word “kalimudan,” meaning “coming together”—brought residents and visitors to Isulan and surrounding municipalities for cultural performances, trade fairs, parades, and heritage showcases. The 2025 edition also featured high-profile appearances, including Miss World 2025 candidate Opal Chuangsri during the opening ceremonies, and large delegations representing various ethnic and local communities of Sultan Kudarat.

In a statement, the governor thanked the agencies responsible for maintaining safety and order throughout the celebration. “According to SKPPO (PNP), the Kalimudan Festival 2025 Closing Event gathered an estimated 1,200,000 festival goers — truly the biggest Music and Cultural Festival in the Philippines!” he said, expressing gratitude to SKPPO, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Civil Security Unit (CSU) for ensuring smooth crowd management.

The Kalimudan Festival is held annually in line with the province’s founding anniversary every November 22. This year’s festivities included traditional street dancing competitions, a grand float parade, agro-industrial fairs, and multi-sector community events that highlighted the unity and diversity of Kudarateños and Mindanaoans.

Local reports described the 2025 edition as one of Mindanao’s most attended cultural celebrations, boosting tourism and providing strong economic activity for vendors, performers, and small businesses throughout the province.
