Kalayaan at Pag-ibig musical resonates with OFW audience during successful BurJuman Mall showcase

The debut performance of Kalayaan at Pag-ibig, a musical written and directed by Elipas Sibua, captivated audiences at BurJuman Mall with its deeply emotional portrayal of Filipino life abroad.

Presented as Act 1 of the anticipated full production, the pilot show followed the story of a Filipino family navigating life in Dubai, highlighting the sacrifices, resilience, and unwavering love that bind them despite the distance from home. The narrative struck a powerful chord with viewers, many of whom saw their own experiences mirrored onstage.

The finale, set to Gary Valenciano’s iconic song Babalik Ka Rin, was especially poignant. Cast members stood with luggage in hand, symbolizing every overseas Filipino’s enduring hope of returning home. “Our journey may take us far, but our hearts will always lead us home,” echoed the show’s message — one that visibly moved the crowd to heartfelt applause.

More than just a musical, the event also served as a lively celebration of community. Hosted by Global Filipino Magazine’s Orli Gayeta, the gathering included interactive games with prizes that added a joyful atmosphere for both guests and casual mallgoers.

Adding to the excitement, WCOPA UAE talents took the stage, showcasing global artistry from countries including the Philippines, Canada, Indonesia, South Africa, China, and India — a reflection of unity through music and dance.

Organizers thanked everyone who came to support the pilot performance. “This is just the beginning,” they promised, as preparations continue for the full staging of Kalayaan at Pag-ibig.
