A new chapter in Filipino pop culture unfolded with the launch of Kabayan ToyKon during the 127th Philippine Independence Day celebration, hosted by the Filipino Social Club at the Dubai World Trade Center. This milestone event brought together the heart of the Filipino community and the world of collecting, imagination, gaming, handicrafts and creativity in one unforgettable celebration.

The BST ToyKon team curated a diverse marketplace that gathered different collectors from across the UAE, featuring a vibrant mix of nostalgia that had an impact on Pinoy pop culture. Attendees were treated to a multicultural experience that highlighted not only Filipino fandom but also the participation of local and expat nationalities from across the Middle East carrying different collectibles, anime, toys, games, comics, handicrafts and memorabilia, showcasing how shared passions can bring communities together.

In a tribute to childhood nostalgia, BST ToyKon collaborated with Otaku ME to host a Tamiya FREE build-and-race experience, offering families and fans the chance to assemble their own miniature cars and test them on a dynamic track — a nod to a well-loved hobby deeply rooted in many Filipino childhood experiences.

Another highlight of the day was the photo booth experience brought to life by Funko and Funko MENA, featuring the ever-iconic Mickey Mouse in a traditional Filipino barong. This playful yet meaningful installation was a crowd favorite among fans of all ages during the event, beautifully blending global pop culture with Filipino tradition.

In addition to the programmed festivities, the first Pinoy Cosplay Fiesta Competition brought to life the richness of Filipino identity, mythology, folklore, and iconic cultural figures through creative Cosplay performances. With the support of Funko MENA, Comicave UAE and a host of other sponsors, all participants were awarded exciting prizes that honoured both creativity and cultural pride. This celebration of Filipino imagination and heritage through cosplay marked a proud display of artistry, storytelling, and performance rooted in Filipino pop culture and history.

With the successful launch of BST Kabayan ToyKon, the event not only celebrated the Filipino Social Club’s Kalayaan 2025 celebration but also added an extra layer of festivity by sparking a growing movement of Filipino-led creativity into mainstream Filipino celebrations in the UAE. Along with the Consulate’s unwavering support for Filipino Creatives, this debut event stands as a testament to what the Filipino spirit can achieve globally when passion meets purpose.

Stay tuned and follow BST and Kabayan ToyKon for more exciting community-driven events, experiences and collector showcases.
