A court in Abu Dhabi has ordered a man to pay AED 30,000 in compensation for the moral and psychological harm he caused a woman he insulted, humiliated, and assaulted. The ruling also requires him to cover court fees and other legal expenses.
The case was brought before the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court after the woman filed a lawsuit seeking AED 50,000 in damages and the return of her personal belongings worth AED 40,000, which she claimed were being withheld by the man.
According to a Gulf Today report, citing court records, the woman had earlier filed a criminal complaint with the Bani Yas Prosecution. The Criminal Court found the man guilty of assault and threats, sentencing him to two months in jail—one month for each charge. However, the execution of the sentences was suspended for three years. He was also fined AED 10,000 for each offense.
The man’s conviction was upheld by the Al Dhafra and External Regions Appeal Prosecution Office, making the ruling final and legally binding. The court emphasized that the criminal judgment had become final and could not be contested in the civil case, affirming the man’s guilt for the acts of insult and assault.
Although the woman submitted a medical report as part of her claim, the court rejected her request for the return of her personal belongings due to a lack of evidence proving that the man still possessed them.
In the end, the civil court ruled that AED 30,000 would be sufficient compensation for the emotional and ethical distress the woman endured because of the man’s actions.
