July 7 declared paid holiday for private sector in UAE

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) announced on Tuesday that July 7 will be a paid holiday for private sector employees in the UAE. This date, which falls on a Sunday, marks the occasion of Hijri New Year, corresponding to Muharram 1 on the Islamic calendar, signifying the beginning of the new Hijri year 1446 AH.

Similarly, Oman has declared July 7 a holiday for both public and private sector employees, creating a long weekend for many who follow a five-day work week.

Residents of the UAE have a few more holidays to look forward to before the end of the year, including one for the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday and a long weekend for National Day, which is the last official holiday of the year. These holidays are part of the 2024 list of public holidays announced by the UAE Cabinet, in addition to the 30 annual leave days available to employees each year.
