Veteran actor John Arcilla has voiced his opinion on the publicized dispute between Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and his mother, Angelica, urging the public to celebrate Yulo’s achievements instead of dwelling on the family conflict.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Aug. 6, Arcilla expressed his concern over the growing attention on the rift. “Parang lumalala na. Sana i-celebrate na lang muna natin ang tagumpay ng kagilagilalas na si Carlos Yulo kahit isang buwan man lang o higit pa, kasi dahil sa kanya nakakaproud bilang Pilipino,” he stated.
Emphasizing the need for “self-regulation,” Arcilla reminded the public to focus on what truly matters. “Sa ganitong level ba talaga natin gustong i-focus ang tagumpay ni Carlos Yulo na tagumpay din natin bilang isang nasyon? Mas importante ba talaga na maka-scoop muna?” he questioned, seemingly addressing the media.
The conflict between Carlos and Angelica became public after Angelica criticized Carlos’ girlfriend, content creator Chloe San Jose, and admitted to making financial decisions for Carlos. Carlos responded by acknowledging San Jose as the “root” of their conflict, citing Angelica’s immediate judgment of her and undisclosed withdrawals from his bank accounts.
“My message to you, Ma, is to heal and move on. I forgave you a long time ago. I pray that you are always safe and in good health,” Carlos said in Filipino. “Let’s stop this (bickering) and instead celebrate the hard work and sacrifices of every Filipino athlete here at the Olympics.”
