Jodi Sta. Maria to pursue master’s degree in clinical psychology

Award-winning actress Jodi Sta. Maria is set to take a step back from the limelight as she embarks on a new chapter in her academic journey, pursuing a master’s degree in clinical psychology.

In a media conference on January 6, the 42-year-old actress announced her plans to focus on her studies after the finale of her current series, Lavender Fields, airs on January 24. Jodi revealed that she intends to specialize in family and marriage therapy, envisioning a future where she can make mental health care more accessible by opening a small clinic.

“I want to do more than just act. There’s life outside showbusiness, and I realized I can still wear another hat,” Jodi shared, explaining her desire to explore new opportunities while continuing to help others.

This pursuit aligns with the value her family instilled in her to prioritize education, even as she built a successful career in acting. Jodi earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Southville International School and Colleges in 2021, balancing her studies with her responsibilities as a mother and actress.

Reflecting on her experience as a student, Jodi shared how much she enjoyed the process. “Being in a classroom, learning new things—it sparks joy for me. I didn’t get special treatment as a student; I was treated just like everyone else, with the same deadlines and expectations.”

In Lavender Fields, Jodi stars as Jasmin, a woman seeking revenge against a criminal empire that disrupted her idyllic life. The series also features Janine Gutierrez, Jericho Rosales, and Maricel Soriano, among others.

While she prepares for her academic pursuits, Jodi expressed excitement about exploring her potential outside of acting, highlighting her belief that one’s purpose can extend beyond a single profession.
