Former child star Jiro Manio has recently sold his Gawad Urian best actor trophy for P75,000 to social media personality Boss Toyo, real name Jayson Luzadas, a collector of local artists’ items. The transaction was documented in a vlog released on Tuesday, Jan. 2, which features Manio unboxing the trophy he won for his role in the 2003 film “Magnifico.”
Manio explained his decision to sell the award, citing his hope that it would be included in Luzadas’ future museum project. “Naisip ko, sana mapabilang ako do’n [bilang] dating artista na nakatanggap ng mga award,” Manio said, expressing his desire to be remembered as a former actor who received accolades.
The negotiation process saw Manio initially asking for P500,000, acknowledging his uncertainty about the trophy’s value. After some discussion, Luzadas and his wife offered P50,000, but eventually, both parties settled on P75,000.
Manio expressed contentment with the sale, stating, “Happy po ako na tinanggap ni Boss Toyo ‘yung [award] ko.” He showed his gratitude towards Luzadas for accepting the trophy, which he hopes will be displayed in the planned museum.
Manio’s performance in “Magnifico” not only earned him the Gawad Urian award but also led to him winning the FAMAS Award for best child actor and the Luna Award from the Film Academy of the Philippines for best actor in 2004.
The former actor has faced personal challenges in recent years, including a stint in a drug rehabilitation center from 2011 to 2017 and an arrest in 2020 for an alleged stabbing incident. In 2022, Manio returned to the rehabilitation center, this time as a co-facilitator.
