MTRCB Chair Lala Sotto has responded to Senator Jinggoy Estrada’s recent criticism of streaming platform VMX (formerly Vivamax) for allegedly showcasing pornographic material and underpaying its performers.
Sotto emphasized that the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) currently does not have jurisdiction over curated online content. “This is why we are grateful to the entire Senate for supporting amendments to the MTRCB charter to expand our scope,” Sotto said.
She acknowledged Estrada’s concerns regarding viewer protection, particularly for children in the digital age, and shared that the MTRCB has taken steps to address subscription-based platforms. “We called their attention and encouraged them to observe our standards,” she added.
While the MTRCB continues to work within the limitations of its mandate under PD 1986, Sotto assured the public of their commitment to addressing such issues.
VMX has yet to release a statement on the matter.
