JBR community bans e-scooters and e-bikes to enhance safety

In a bid to enhance safety, all e-scooters and e-bikes have been banned in the Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) community. The move, confirmed by Dubai Community Management on Thursday, is aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring a safer environment for both residents and visitors.

According to a Khaleej Times report, yhe restriction applies to battery-powered mobility devices on the ground and plaza levels of The Walk. Notices in Arabic and English, featuring crossed-out icons of e-bikes and e-scooters, have been installed throughout the area to inform the public of the new rule.

“The vibrant tourist hotspot and family-friendly community JBR has restricted the use of e-scooters on the ground and plaza levels of The Walk. This measure aims to ensure the safety of residents and visitors, prevent accidents, and maintain the pedestrian-friendly appeal of the area,” Dubai Community Management stated.

Local residents have expressed support for the ban. Italian expat Simone Majocchi, who regularly walks the Marina Walk and JBR loop, said, “I’m glad Dubai Community Management has banned anything on wheels from the walkway that goes from JBR 1 to Roxy Cinemas The Beach JBR. With this new ban, I can regain my peace of mind while walking.”

Concerns about e-scooter safety have been long-standing among Dubai residents. Jordanian expat Mohammed Abunael previously voiced his worries about the reckless behavior of some e-scooter riders, describing the situation as a “nightmare” due to the unpredictable riding patterns.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) had already banned e-scooters from Dubai Metro and Tram services earlier this year, citing safety concerns. While the JBR ban adds to these measures, safety advocates continue to push for stricter regulations, including the registration of e-scooters to enhance rider accountability.
