Japanese ramen shop owner threatens customers over bad review

A Kyoto ramen shop owner sparked outrage after threatening two customers who left a negative review, even offering a cash reward for information about them.

The owner of TOYOJIRO, a highly rated ramen restaurant, reacted angrily after receiving a one-star rating, according to entertainment news outlet Dexerto. In a now-deleted Instagram post, he publicly called out the dissatisfied diners, sharing their faces and warning them to stay away from restaurants altogether.

“If you get in our way, we’ll get in the way of yours,” he wrote, demanding that one of the customers return, eat again, and post a positive review with a photo. He added that he “won’t forgive” the reviewer, even “for the safety of his family.”

The situation escalated when the owner posted an Instagram Story offering a 100,000 yen (around PhP38,700) bounty for any details about the two customers.

The post was met with backlash online, leading to its removal. The owner later apologized, admitting he had “gone too far” and vowed to reflect on his actions.

TOYOJIRO also released a public statement expressing deep regret over the incident, acknowledging the negative impact on its reputation. The restaurant promised to improve and remain committed to serving customers worldwide.
