Japanese PM to visit Manila for bilateral talks with Marcos

Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru is set to arrive in the Philippines for an official visit from April 29 to 30, according to Malacañang.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos will host Prime Minister Ishiba and his wife, Yoshiko Ishiba, in a series of formal engagements at Malacañang Palace on the first day of the visit.

The two leaders are expected to discuss ways to bolster ties between Japan and the Philippines, focusing on economic collaboration, political and defense partnerships, and deeper people-to-people exchanges.

Their dialogue will also cover pressing regional and global issues, with both sides aiming to build on the existing “Strengthened Strategic Partnership” for lasting peace and development in the region.

Regular exchanges of top-level visits like this are a hallmark of the longstanding and evolving relationship between Manila and Tokyo.
