Ivana Alawi recently shared details of her frightening hospitalization caused by an ovarian issue that led to fluid buildup in her stomach and lungs, turning into a life-threatening situation. In her YouTube vlog, the actress and content creator revealed the intense pain she endured and how the ordeal nearly claimed her life.
“Sa lahat ng dinanas ko sa buhay, isa ito sa pinakamatindi na pain,” Alawi said. She added that during the worst moments, she felt as if she was saying goodbye to her mother and considered it a second chance at life.
Alawi explained that her health scare began with complications related to her ovaries, alongside a diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a hormonal condition that can lead to irregular or prolonged menstrual periods and other complications such as infertility and depression, according to the World Health Organization.
The YouTuber recounted how her condition escalated: “I got fluid in my stomach na sobrang napuno na siya,” she said, describing how the buildup made her look five months pregnant and caused severe discomfort that affected her ability to breathe and walk. “Kaunting lakad ko lang, parang hihimatayin ako,” she noted, emphasizing the critical state she was in when she was rushed to the hospital.
Once there, doctors discovered the fluid and administered emergency pain relief. “Nagpanic ‘yung mga doctors kasi parang humihina na ‘yung pulse,” she recalled, adding that she was advised not to close her eyes as her condition worsened.
Alawi described the relief she felt after doctors drained two liters of fluid from her stomach. “Habang tinanggal ‘yung tubig, on the spot napangiti talaga ako kasi parang nakahinga na ako nang kaunti,” she shared.
Despite the ordeal, Alawi admitted that fear for her own life wasn’t her primary concern—her thoughts were with her family. “It was more of paano ‘yung family ko,” she said.
Now on her path to recovery, Alawi expressed gratitude to her fans and colleagues for their support. “Ngayon, I’m still recovering, hindi pa 100% okay. And gusto ko ding mag-thank you… sa lahat ng nag-message at nag-pray for me,” she concluded.
Earlier, Alawi posted on Instagram that she had to be taken back to the hospital, though she did not specify her condition at that time.
