Inspiring journey of Filipino expatriate finding success in the insurance industry

The professional journey of OFW Maureen Sinamban Magno is a compelling narrative of transformation and growth. Known as Mau or Mayy to those close to her, she began her international career in 2016 with a significant position in a renowned retail company in Abu Dhabi.

Despite her success in accounting, a profound sense of unfulfillment led her to explore new avenues. In 2019, a pivotal opportunity in the insurance sector unfolded, marking the beginning of a fulfilling career path in sales, marketing, and coaching.

Maureen shares her experience with The Global Filipino Magazine, “It was a revelation to me, as it aligned perfectly with my passion and strengths, showing me a way to enjoy both life and work with a renewed sense of purpose.”

Choosing to work abroad was propelled by financial necessities, a decision Maureen describes as one of the hardest in her life. This move not only represented a career shift but also a significant personal challenge, particularly the emotional difficulty of leaving her family behind in the Philippines.

Her professional background in the Philippines, encompassing 19 years in general accounting and internal auditing, as well as her role as a National Marketing Director, provided a strong foundation for her overseas career.

In her current role as an Agency Manager at Al Futtaim LLC – Orient Insurance, Maureen finds profound fulfillment.

She elaborates, “Providing financial plans that empower our clients to secure their future and mitigate risks brings an unparalleled sense of accomplishment.”

Her role involves guiding clients through the complexities of financial security, from risk management to wealth creation.

Maureen’s identity as an OFW is a source of great pride for her. It’s not just about professional advancement; it’s about showcasing Filipino skills, resilience, and the deep-rooted values of hard work and faith.

She reflects on this experience, stating, “As Filipinos working overseas, we bring our cultural strengths to the global stage, earning recognition for our dedication and ability to collaborate with diverse teams.”

However, her path hasn’t been without obstacles. Overcoming homesickness and various professional challenges required inner strength and support from her family and friends. These experiences have not only shaped her resilience but also deepened her appreciation for her roots and the support system that has been instrumental in her journey.

Maureen looks to the future with entrepreneurial aspirations, dreaming of establishing a coffee shop or restaurant in the Philippines that highlights the culinary heritage of Pampanga. This venture symbolizes her commitment to contributing to her home country’s economy and providing employment opportunities.

Offering advice to fellow Filipinos working abroad, Maureen emphasizes resilience and hope.

She advises, “Challenges in terms of finances, relationships, and career growth are inevitable, but maintaining hope and perseverance is crucial.”

She stresses the importance of self-improvement, letting go of what can’t be controlled, and embracing life’s imperfections.
