Abu Dhabi’s Environment Agency (EAD) has suspended the operations of an industrial facility in Al Mafraq that specializes in processing used oils due to violations of environmental laws and regulations.
According to Khaleej Times, the EAD took this action after detecting non-compliance through its periodic air quality monitoring reports and inspection visits. Public complaints about irritating gas odours also contributed to the decision.
“Based on the periodic monitoring reports of the EAD’s air quality monitoring stations and inspection visits as well as the response to various complaints received from the public regarding the emission of irritating gas odours, it was found that their source was the facility. Numerous violations related to non-compliance with environmental licence requirements were noticed,” stated Faisal Al Hammadi, executive director of EAD’s environment quality sector.
Al Hammadi further explained that the facility failed to implement necessary precautionary measures to prevent harmful emissions and did not install mandatory air pollution control devices. These repeated violations adversely affected the air quality in surrounding residential areas, leading to the suspension of the facility’s operations.
EAD has called on all industrial establishments to comply with the environmental license requirements and to ensure adherence to legal and technical conditions to protect the environment.
