Authorities have arrested two men linked to the attempted robbery and shooting of an Indian businessman inside his residence in Malabon City, the Northern Police District (NPD) confirmed on Thursday.
The incident took place Wednesday afternoon in Barangay Tugatog, where the suspects were seen arriving on a motorcycle and entering the victim’s home in an apparent robbery attempt. According to a statement from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), the victim bravely fought back. “The victim, showing remarkable courage, resisted. One of the assailants drew a firearm and fired, hitting the victim in the left forearm before they fled the scene,” the statement read.
Police recovered crucial pieces of evidence near the crime scene, including a red helmet and the suspects’ getaway motorcycle, which prompted a swift police operation.
The suspects reportedly boarded an e-tricycle headed to Barangay Maysilo, where they were later apprehended. Their arrest was facilitated by the e-tricycle driver, who positively identified them to authorities.
The NPD described the arrested individuals as a 25-year-old man with a prior record for robbery, firearms law violations, and resisting arrest, and a 32-year-old man who previously faced robbery charges involving force.
The victim was taken to a hospital in Caloocan City for treatment, while the suspects are now in police custody. They are facing charges of attempted robbery and frustrated homicide, along with violations of the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act (Republic Act 11235), filed before the Malabon City Prosecutor’s Office.
