House Speaker Martin Romualdez expressed solidarity with the Filipino community in Vancouver following the devastating incident that turned a day of celebration into one of sorrow.
“What was supposed to be a day of joy — a celebration of our heroes and heritage — became a day of heartbreak,” Romualdez said, mourning the loss of lives and injuries suffered during the event. He emphasized that the pain felt by the Filipino-Canadian community extends across borders, assuring them, “Ramdam po namin ang inyong sakit.”
Romualdez vowed that the House of Representatives stands firmly with the victims and their families. “I want our kababayans in Canada to know: Hindi kayo nag-iisa. We are one with you in mourning, and we stand ready to help in any way we can,” he said.
He also instructed consular officials to act swiftly to ensure support, protection, and justice for affected Filipinos. At the same time, he urged Canadian authorities to pursue full accountability and implement stronger measures to safeguard the Filipino community.
“To the families who lost loved ones, to those who are hurting, and to every Filipino touched by this tragedy — you are in our thoughts and in our prayers,” Romualdez added, reaffirming that the entire House of Representatives stands with the grieving community, offering full-hearted sympathy and support.
