President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed renowned singer Imelda Papin as an “acting member” of the Board of Directors for the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).
The President himself administered Papin’s oath, as shown in a post on the Presidential Communications Office’s Facebook page.
The PCSO board, consisting of five members appointed by the President, is authorized to propose rules and regulations concerning lotteries and horse races, subject to presidential approval. According to the 2023 Report on Salaries and Allowances by the Commission on Audit, board members earned between P1.6 million and P2.03 million last year.
Papin, known as the “jukebox queen” of local showbiz, gained fame in the 1970s and has since had a notable political career alongside her music. Despite unsuccessful bids for congressional seats in Bulacan and Camarines Sur and a senatorial run in 2010, she has remained a prominent figure in both entertainment and politics.
Last year, Papin celebrated her 45th year in the industry by releasing her biopic, “Loyalista,” which chronicles her life and her time spent with former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and his wife Imelda Marcos in Hawaii.
