The International Criminal Court (ICC) is recruiting freelance transcribers proficient in Filipino and Cebuano to work remotely under its Language Services Unit, Integrated Services Division, within the Office of the Prosecutor.
According to the job listing posted on January 28, 2025, successful applicants will be included in a roster and may be offered contracts based on the unit’s needs. The ICC also noted that transcribers should be prepared to handle audio and video materials that could be distressing due to the nature of its cases.
The recruitment was announced more than a month before former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s arrest. Duterte, who primarily speaks Cebuano, is currently detained in The Hague, Netherlands, facing crimes against humanity charges linked to his administration’s drug war.
The ICC pre-trial chamber cited reasonable grounds to believe Duterte was “individually responsible for the crimes against humanity of murder” due to extrajudicial killings linked to the Duterte Death Squad (DDS) and Philippine law enforcement.
