Hundreds of inmates across UAE granted clemency ahead of Eid Al Adha

In a sweeping act of compassion ahead of Eid Al Adha, rulers across the United Arab Emirates have ordered the release of thousands of inmates from various correctional facilities.

Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, directed the release of 411 prisoners on Tuesday. The decision comes as part of a broader tradition in the UAE of granting clemency during significant religious occasions.

In Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also approved the release of 985 prisoners of various nationalities. This move, echoed by other emirates, aims to give inmates a fresh start and allow them to reunite with their families during the festive period.

In Fujairah, 112 inmates will also walk free following a directive by Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi. The emirate’s media office confirmed via Instagram that those released had shown good behavior and met eligibility criteria.

Earlier in the day, Sharjah Ruler Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi also announced the release of 439 inmates. Meanwhile, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan granted clemency to 963 prisoners nationwide.
