Balancing a demanding corporate career with an intense passion for running marathons takes determination and discipline. For Jonah Florido, a banker at UAE-based bank, this balance has fueled her journey as an accomplished runner. Though she’s only been abroad for a year, Jonah has already made a name for herself in the UAE running scene, competing in the Dubai and ADNOC marathons.
“Running saved me from my messed-up mind and all the emotional pain,” she shares. Beginning her journey in April 2023, Jonah turned to running during a challenging period in her life. “It became my escape… it gives freedom, mental clarity, and peace,” she explains, reflecting on how the sport became her source of strength and renewal.
Jonah’s impressive marathon times—3:42:40 in Dubai and 3:44:51 in ADNOC—highlight her dedication. She is a proud member of Adidas Abu Dhabi Runners and RWP, two of the most respected running teams in the Philippines. “Being part of the AR Community made a huge difference because of all the push and support,” she says, reflecting on her second Dubai Marathon experience.
Despite her demanding work schedule with weekly shifts, Jonah prioritizes her training. “My training tries to fit in my work schedule,” she admits. Sometimes, she trains in the mornings before work; other times, after her shift.
Jonah cherishes the mental and physical boost running provides. “The runner’s high, endurance, and feeling my body become stronger make me want to keep going,” she explains. Her most memorable moment? Persevering through a fall at the ADNOC Marathon. “I tripped and bled halfway but still managed to finish strong,” she recalls.
Jonah’s next goal is to achieve a sub-3:30:00 marathon time and eventually compete in world major marathons. Her advice to aspiring runners? “Trust and enjoy the process. It’s you vs. you.”
