How a Filipino nurse champions clinical growth and nursing education

As a seasoned Nursing Professional Development Specialist and educator at UC Davis Health, Dr. Denise Angelo Prudencio, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, NPD-BC, PCCN, CGNC, has dedicated more than two decades to advancing nursing education and leadership. With roots in the University of Santo Tomas (UST) College of Nursing, Batch 2004, he has built a foundation of excellence through a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and a wide array of certifications, marking his unwavering commitment to the field.

Dr. Prudencio has been honored with numerous awards that highlight his distinguished career. Among these are the Baltimore Magazine’s Excellence in Nursing Award for three consecutive years, the 2023 Distinguished Young Thomasian Alumni Award, and the 2024 National Excellence Award for Nurse Educator from the Philippine Nurses Association of America (PNAA). He is also the self-published author of Serenity in Simplicity, which earned recognition at the International Impact Book Awards. Further cementing his standing, he is poised to become a Fellow of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

Reflecting on his receipt of the Luther Christman Award, Dr. Prudencio stated, “A defining moment in my career that truly embodies the spirit of the Luther Christman Award has been my journey in championing nursing professional development and advancing clinical excellence.” His work has focused on creating opportunities for professional growth and certification for nurses, enhancing both their careers and patient care outcomes.

As Vice President of PNAC3 and an active member of organizations like SIENNA and the American Nurses Association (ANA), Dr. Prudencio has championed health equity and supported globally educated nurses. He noted, “In every role—from bedside nurse to educator to leader—I have prioritized mentorship, diversity, and inclusion, recognizing that empowering nurses fosters a stronger, more compassionate healthcare community.”
