How a Filipina turned challenges into a dream job with a leading airline in Dubai

Flying has a way of transforming dreams into reality. For Clanmaurice Evangelista, a 29-year-old flight attendant at one of the leading airlines in the UAE, this transformation wasn’t just about soaring above the clouds—it was about discovering resilience, faith, and self-belief along the way.

Chasing the dream

Clanmaurice’s journey in aviation began right after she graduated with a degree in Political Science. Her passion for traveling and connecting with people led her to work with her country’s flag carrier. But she didn’t stop there. Driven by a desire to challenge herself, she took a leap of faith and ventured abroad, initially working in Oman. “It was an eye-opening experience,” she shares with TGFM. “I learned so much while working in a diverse, multicultural environment.”

However, the pandemic turned her world upside down. Like many in the aviation industry, Clanmaurice lost her job and had to return to the Philippines. Despite the setback, she didn’t allow it to define her. Exploring online work to stay productive, she never lost sight of her dream. “I knew my heart belonged in the skies,” she shares.

Her persistence paid off. Clanmaurice eventually joined a budget airline in the Philippines, where she continued to build her skills. But her ultimate dream was always clear—working for her dream airline before turning 30. In Dubai, she found that dream job with Emirates. “After a decade of waiting, I finally got the opportunity. I didn’t hesitate,” she beams. “Every challenge, setback, and triumph has shaped me into who I am today.”

Embracing challenges and staying true

As someone who has flown for four different airlines over seven years, Clanmaurice’s career is marked by perseverance and a genuine desire to help others. “Being a cabin crew member is about more than just serving meals. It’s about ensuring safety and being there for passengers,” she explains. Her proactive attitude also extends beyond her profession. Back in the Philippines, she became a licensed amateur radio operator, using her skills to assist in emergencies.

But life abroad isn’t always glamorous. For Clanmaurice, the toughest part has been leaving her family behind, especially as they grow older. “It’s hard to know I’m missing moments with them. I can only hope they’ll be there when I decide to return,” she admits. Despite these struggles, her faith keeps her strong. “I was raised with a strong faith in God, and that has always been my anchor.”

For Clanmaurice, the ability to work overseas has offered more than just financial stability—it has broadened her worldview. “Working abroad exposes you to new cultures, languages, and perspectives. It makes you more open-minded and appreciative of diversity,” she says. It has also reinforced her independence and resilience.

A future grounded in faith and family

Despite her success in Dubai, Clanmaurice’s heart remains in the Philippines. One day, she dreams of returning home, spending time with her family, and serving in her church. “There is no place like home,” she smiles.

Her advice for fellow overseas Filipinos is clear: “Have faith and trust in God—you are not alone. Remember why you started and always keep your loved ones in mind. If you ever feel like giving up, think of them. Choose kindness, especially toward fellow kabayans, because we are the ones who will support each other.”
