Success doesn’t happen overnight. For Shemeleth Garcines and her husband Shaheryar, their journey to entrepreneurship in Dubai was a story of resilience, passion, and a shared dream. From humble beginnings to running Java King, a popular food venture in three bustling night markets—Winter, Kabayan, and Satwa—they have built a brand that resonates with customers.
“I’m Milleth, the proud owner of Java King, a business my husband Shaheryar and I built from the ground up,” Shemeleth shared with TGFM, recalling how their story began. Before becoming entrepreneurs, they were just like many overseas workers—seeking a better life abroad.
From humble beginnings to a thriving venture
Shemeleth’s journey began in 2013 when she decided to leave the Philippines and pursue better opportunities in Dubai. Her first job as a sales representative in a jewelry shop earned her a modest salary of AED 3,000. It was a start, but she never lost sight of her dreams. “Every step forward was a step toward something greater,” she said.

Her inspiration came from her cousin Ann, the owner of Kain Tayo, whose success abroad encouraged Shemeleth to take the leap. With Shaheryar by her side, they ventured into the world of entrepreneurship, driven by a shared love for good food and a commitment to creating something of their own.
Their business, Java King, started in night markets—an environment that allowed them to connect directly with customers. “What I love most about our work is the fulfillment that comes from creating something of our own. It’s not just about selling meals; it’s about creating an experience,” Shemeleth explained.

Overcoming struggles with resilience
Like many overseas workers, Shemeleth and Shaheryar’s journey wasn’t without challenges. Homesickness, long working hours, and financial struggles were constant realities. But instead of being discouraged, they used these obstacles as motivation to build a better future.
Shemeleth’s experience working in the jewelry industry taught her resilience and perseverance. “It wasn’t glamorous, but it built my character,” she shared. These lessons, combined with Shaheryar’s unwavering support, became the foundation of their success.
Their mantra, “Serve with passion, innovate with purpose, and grow with resilience,” is more than just a slogan—it is a reflection of their journey. Every sacrifice, every sleepless night, and every challenge they faced became a stepping stone toward success.

A vision for the future
Today, Java King is more than just a food stall—it’s a dream turned reality. They continue to serve Filipino flavors with pride, bringing comfort and joy to their customers.
But their journey is far from over. As they look to the future, Shemeleth and Shaheryar dream of expanding Java King even further, exploring new opportunities, and inspiring others to follow their path. “For now, our hearts and our future are in Dubai,” Shemeleth said.
Her advice to fellow Filipinos abroad is simple yet profound: “Take risks. Growth only happens when you step outside your comfort zone.” And for those who doubt the idea of running a business with family, Shemeleth has a lighthearted message: “As my husband Shaheryar says, ‘You just need understanding, respect, and to listen to your wife!’”
