Several lawmakers credited Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez’s leadership for the recent high trust and performance ratings he received, according to a statement released on Thursday.
House officials, including Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio Gonzales Jr., Deputy Speaker David Suarez, Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe, quad committee chairpersons, and members of the Young Guns bloc, highlighted Romualdez’s ability to unite diverse political parties, which has led to the passage of key legislation.
A recent OCTA Research survey showed Romualdez earned a 58% trust rating and a 59% performance score. Lawmakers attributed these ratings to his work ethic and focus on the welfare of Filipinos.
“Speaker Romualdez leads by example—he’s hardworking and meticulous, always prioritizing the needs of the people,” they stated in a joint statement in Filipino.
Under his leadership, the 19th Congress approved over 4,760 measures, including 166 laws, in 178 session days. The House also conducted notable investigations into sensitive issues, such as agricultural smuggling, anomalies in power costs, and the misuse of public funds, reflecting a commitment to transparency and good governance.
The House’s quad committee probed illegal activities in Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators hubs, extrajudicial killings during the previous administration’s drug war, and misconduct among law enforcement officers. Additionally, the committee on good government and public accountability examined allegations of misused confidential funds in Vice President Sara Duterte’s offices.
The Young Guns bloc emphasized Romualdez’s inclusivity, enabling the House’s youth members to contribute to legislative initiatives and advocacies.
